The marketing campaign for Richard Kelly's The Box has been a bit odd. While the posters and trailers have done well at telling us the basic premise (a couple is offered a million dollars to press a button that will kill someone in the world), they don't really do much in setting a specific tone for the movie. Is it a horror flick? Suspense? Action? All three? The latest poster for the film, brought to us by Empire, offers pretty much the same blurred faces, vague tagline, and stoic facial expressions that we've seen before. For all we know, the three actors are pooping. Is that what the box does? Makes you poop?
Richard Kelly really needs The Box to be at least slightly successful. After the mess that was Southland Tales, it's hard to imagine any studio trusting him with the lighting of a movie, much less an entire project, especially if this film tanks.
Check out the poster below or in high -res on Empire here and tell us what you think.
