Cameron Dumps Alita, Picks Avatar![]()
After years of zero movie output from James Cameron while he hung out in mini-subs making three dimensional documentaries, Cameron is coming back to cinemas. There’s just one problem: He’s had two different projects on his plate.
Cameron has been in pre-production on two different science fiction films: Battle Angel Alita, a giant robot fighting movie; and Avatar. Alita was supposed to be his first movie, but now AICN says it’s being put on the back burner. Instead, Avatar will be James Cameron’s next project. So what the heck is it about? AICN has the answer, with a plot synopsis dug up from a casting notice. Here’s the official plot description: “In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Navi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.” For a more specific character by character breakdown, you’ll have to click over to Harry’s Place. Runaway Bride 2? I’m in! It’s hard to believe, but the last feature film from James Cameron was Titanic back in 1997! By the time Avatar comes out, JC will have been more than a decade away from theaters. As a way to return, Avatar sounds like a good one. The plot description makes it sound enormous, which is exactly the sort of movie you want Cameron attempting. Even better if he actually uses his much vaunted 3-D technology on it. It’s up to big names like JC to push the medium to the next level. Avatar will now be the movie he uses to do it. |
