When is success too much success? When you're Emily Blunt, and you've been offered great roles in two huge upcoming films-- and Fox owns you to the point that they can tell you which one to pick. Blunt has been tapped, along with Jason Segel, for a role in Gulliver's Travels, the Jack Black reimagining of the classic adventure tale. But this may mean that Blunt wouldn't be able to play Black Widow in Iron Man 2-- and because Fox still has a contract on her from Devil Wears Prada, they may be able to force her to take the Gulliver role instead.
All is not lost-- Variety says they're all trying to work things out so she can play both roles. But wouldn't it be a shame to gain Emily Blunt as a Lilliputian princess, but lose her as a Cold War-type superspy? In the meantime, we can focus on how great it is that Segel will be joining as Gulliver's (Jack Black) best friend, who helps rescue Gulliver once he's captured by the Lilliputians. That puts Segel back together with Forgetting Sarah Marshall Nicholas Stoller, who wrote the Gulliver screenplay. A whole lot of good things going on here-- and Blunt would make it all even better.
