With an Oscar in his hand, Philip Seymour Hoffman has his pick of projects. Too bad this didn’t happen before he agreed to Mission Impossible: 3. I guess MI:3 will be his Stealth.

Variety says that America’s newest Best Actor will make the Fox Searchlight film The Savages his next. He’ll co-star with Larua Linney in the story of siblings caring for an elderly, ailing, estranged father. Hoffman’s no stranger to the taking care of old people genre, he took care of someone else’s estranged, ailing father in Magnolia. Something tells me The Savages could us a little frog rain. The concept sounds like a melodramatic snooze. It’s been done… a lot.

But the Tamara Jenkins directed and written movie will go on despite my indifference. Production gets going this April.
