Notice how, just a few months ago, there was talk about sequels to just about every major franchise in existence? Everyone was willing to talk about sequels as their films’ next chapter was headed for theaters, but very few franchises kept that talk going after their films hit screens, especially as a few series put in disappointing showings this summer.
Among the disappointing was Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the third chapter in the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. At the time the movie was headed for screens, several people were talking about continuing the franchise. Surprisingly among them was Johnny Depp, who is well known for not wanting to revisit characters. The talk was that At World’s End would finish up the current storylines and that, if the franchise continued, it would be a new trilogy that would leave behind most of the characters, except, of course, Captain Jack Sparrow.
Well, now the At World’s End DVD is about to come out, so talk about Pirates has renewed. In an online press junket (reported on by Movieweb), director Gore Verbinski talked about the possible future of the franchise, stating, I think the trilogy is now complete. All of the stories set in motion by the first film have been resolved. If there ever were another Pirates of the Caribbean film, I would start fresh and focus on the further adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow.”
Basically, this is exactly the same stance we had months ago. There’s no guarantee that Pirates will continue, and if it does it will leave behind Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan and pursue Jack Sparrow on another adventure.
Do we want another Pirates adventure? I loved the first two films, but At World’s End was a disappointment. Was it because they rushed the sequel into production to strike while the proverbial fire was hot? The Dead Man’s Chest DVD extras hinted that the writing schedule was rough, with production already underway as the writers were crafting the script. This would explain why they had no idea what to do with great devices like the Kraken, simply killing it offscreen. Or was the problem that Verbinski and writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio simply ran out of ideas? If that’s the case, we don’t need more Pirates movies.
How about you? Do you want to see another adventure for Captain Jack Sparrow?

I would definitely like to see another Pirates movie if, as you say, they can get the writing right.
At World's End had its moments. Overall, it was another visually stunning, beautifully acted and presented film; but when Lord Beckett's best response to two sloggish and damaged pirate ships is stunned hysteria, it would seem like the writers didn't step up. That ending left me sighing a little.
Johnny Depp, always brilliant, crafted a character here that will forever rank among my favorites. I would happily hand over my hard-earned bucks to see it revived in a fresh, compelling story.
I thought the first Pirates movie was one of the best popcorn movies ever. If they could return to that fun spirit, they should! But this time they should have the script written before they start. The commentary on the second movie indicated, unbelievably, that was not at all the case. They'll have plenty of time to work on it. They should ground it more, not so fantastic, focus on actual life at sea maybe a little more and how a ship would actually work (that bugged me especially on the 3rd one, they treated huge ships like they were cars, careening in tight circles, waiting all in a line with all their sails full (!). The series kept getting more and more improbable (how'd they get to Singapore?) And less dark too, why does every movie have to be dark. The first one had gorgeous island views, it was like going on vacation. And this time don't wait 45 minutes to bring Jack on.
I'd be all for another Pirates movie so long as Johnny Depp starred as Captain Jack. I heard somewhere there was talk of a prequel, which might be alright. But nobody else can play Jack.
Too bad they killed off Beckett. He was the best villain I've seen in a long time.
But I'm fine with losing Will and Elizabeth. They'd need to keep Barbossa to play off Jack. More like the first one.
Like I said on the IMDB forum.
Bring on a prequel trilogy.
If they did that they could bring back the best characters of the trilogy and skip Orlando and Keira, who in my opinion, got more and more annoying.
bring on the backstory of Jack,Barbossa,Bootstrap,Davy Jones,Lord Beckett and bring in some new blood as well.
That would be the way to go I think.
What do you think of that?
I would be up for another pirates movie (trilogy... whatever), so long as the writing was on par with the first two films. The third film was disappointing. Too many plot lines run amok, the thing with Calypso made me roll my eyes, all the double-talk and back-stabbing wasn't clear... really the only things I liked were "Multiple Jack" and the resolution between Will and Elizabeth (so bittersweet... loved it). It seemed as though they were trying to make the movie appear smarter than it really was.
So yeah, get the writing fixed and then bring on the sequels (or prequels).
More imaginative and fantasy-fantastic movies of this kind, rich in textures, stories and layers are indeed needed. I'd be truly lost forever if there were no more of this further on. Keep the sea. The sea is GOOD. (As is the rhum.) But keep OUT of those freezing cold waters before everybody loose their toes...I think ia Dalma/Calypso/Naomie Harris should be in her true element in an upcoming film together with Jack, who of course can be no other than Johnny Depp. Elisabeth and Will are there too, If I get to decide, but the story should be more of what Jack will do next. In his search for the fountain of youth he could end up pretty anywhere BUT at the right island so feel free to write in more thrilling events. In order to keep the same kind of storytelling as in the previous movies, it is maybe just fine if memories and earlier events are just hinted at, but I'd like to know just a little bit more about how Jack's mother got into that state! Also I wonder what Elisabeth did while she was waiting for Will to step on shore next. I bet she was not knitting socks!
Barbossa should also stay put in the frame.
i would LOVE to have more adentures of Captain Jack Sparow! Johnney Depp is a really good actor and the perfect actor for Jack. If they dont make another movie i would be truely disapointed. But i wouldnt count on that because Johnney loves to be Jack. Infact he said he would rather be Jack than Johnney. I would also want to know more about his father and also the Turner family ( since if you saw the credits you would see Elizabeth had a son ).
I would Like to see another Praite OF THE CARRIBBEAN movie as long as Johny Depp Plays Captain jack Sparrow, Orlando Plays Will Turner and as every plays there Part. Don't Get Redi of any one i like it the way it is. I love All 3 Movies Make More Or I will Be Very Sad.
