Captain Kirk Casting Rumor![]()
JJ Abrams may finally have his Captain Kirk. Or at least we may know what direction he’s leaning. IESB is running a rumor which says that the frontrunner for the part of Captain James Tiberius Kirk may be a nobody. Sorry Matt Damon.
A guy named Mike Vogel is reportedly the most likely candidate to play Kirk in Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel. Vogel is 28-years-old and ridiculously good looking. He looks like the kind of guy you’d expect to show up in the latest teen slasher move, and surprise surprise there’s one of those listed amongst his meager screen credits. He played a guy named “Andy” in 2003’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. He was also one of the major players in Poseidon, if I remember correctly he was the likable boyfriend character. Vogel was also lucky enough to be in Havoc, a movie best known as the place where Anne Hathaway first got really naked. If he’s going to totally score with green, half-naked women from the bridge of the Enterprise, a little full-frontal training opposite Anne Hathaway might be a good thing. Can the guy handle Kirk’s captain’s chair? It’s hard to say. He’s good looking and he’s had success with babes. That’s at least part of Kirk’s personality, now we just need to find out if he can handle an… unpredictably… halting… speech pattern. Or, maybe we should wait to find out of he actually has the part. So far Paramount and even Vogel’s talent agency have refused to comment on the story. So consider this just another wild rumor until someone in a position to really know something speaks. |
