Captain Kirk Returns To Trek![]()
There have been more than a few really weird Star Trek rumors flying around lately. As usual nobody has any confirmation, but there's plenty of rumors. For instance we heard from Patrick Stewart not long ago that he was interested in doing more Star Trek. Maybe he's as sickened by the state of X-Men as the rest of us.
Now, CanMag.com has the goddamn pimp master of all rumors. William Shatner may be returning to Star Trek. By now, my Shatner love is probably well known to all of you, it often spills over into my news stories, and sometimes borders on sick. I won't apologize for it. He's my leader. I'd give anything to see him back as Kirk, almost anything anyway. Ok, actually this sounds like a horrible horrible idea. Here's what CanMag says may be the next Trek: "The current script – I ASSUME ‘ONE’ OF MANY - apparently has events set in what is called a “Mirror” Universe. It will enable Trek actors past and present to play roles, including William Shatner." They go on to add that Picard and Captain Archer might be involved as well. Why not Janeway or Sisko? Hey, let's see if we can bring in Quark while we're at it. He was popular. Oh and T'Pol! She's hot. Can we get her in skimpy outfits? Of course I've never heard of CanMag.com, or if I did I didn't remember it past the point where I heard of it. They may be the most spot on reliable site on the internet, or they're full of crap. Who knows. Anyone could start this rumor. A scooper emailed them and said he's a stuntman and has some sort of inside track on the script. No way to corroborate it of course. Alright, there's my disclaimer, let the ranting being… My god what a terrible idea. It sounds like one of the more half-assed scripts they came up with in the last season of "Enterprise". If this is where Trek is headed, forget it. I love Shatner, I'll watch him in anything and grin like an idiot. A couple of hours ago I watched him in "Boston Legal", a show which rocks every second he's on screen and sucks every second he isn't. I'd even watch him in this… but the franchise is in trouble specifically because of this sort of crap. There's no desire to move it forward, just a desperate need to keep cashing in on the past and milking it for everything it's worth. This sounds like a parody sketch gone miserably wrong. Leave Shatner the hell alone. He's busy, he's old, and he's already said his goodbyes to Star Trek. I love him, I love Star Trek, but I can't stand the thought of this. |
