Watchmen may have found its first legitimate name… sort of. ComingSoon is reporting that Carla Gugino will join the cast to play Sally Jupiter. The rest of the cast is comprised of actors no one has heard of, people like Matthew Goode and Patrick Wilson. Till her addition, Billy Crudup was the closest thing the film had to a big name star.

Unfortunately, Sally Jupiter’s part in the Watchmen story isn’t exactly a starring one. She plays a pivotal role, but isn’t one of the comic’s main characters. Sally is a waitress and burlesque dancer who becomes a superhero in the 30s at the age of 18. Later, he daughter Laurie takes up the mantle and plays a pivotal role in the modern day story told in Moore’s Watchmen story. Actually, I really wish Carla was playing Laurie (played by Malin Ackerman). She’d have been a perfect fit for that.

Still, any time you can squeeze Carla Gugino into a pair of tight-fitting pants and I’ll that a win. You can’t go wrong with Carla Gugino, I just wish we were getting more of her in a central Watchmen role.
