Unlike a lot of movie freaks, I have at best a very iffy relationship with the movies of John Carpenter. He’s made things I really like (Starman), he’s made things I really hate (Ghost of Mars), but most of his movies fall in the middle for me, and I think tend to get utterly overrated by his super-devoted fans. Escape From New York and Escape From LA for instance, really aren’t that great if you take away the nostalgia factor so many people have associated with them.

Still, he’s John Carpenter dammit and there’s no denying the guy has skins. There are things he does pretty well, particularly things involving demons, vampires, zombies, and hellish cities. So even for me, this is sort of an exciting rumor. AICN is reporting that Carpenter may be secretly working on a new movie called LA Gothic. The title alone gets me tingling, but wait till you read their plot description: “the script has various chapters but they all revolve around a Preist and his Teen-age daughter and that there are a ton of creatures in it. It's supposed to have vampires, zombies and a demon-possesed rock-star. He said it all takes place in LA over a couple of days and that it's vintage Carpenter tons of gore and action.”

That sounds pretty awesome, though come to think of it we all said pretty much the same things about Ghosts of Mars. In a way, this sounds somewhat similar, like Ghosts of Mars planet bound and with a cute kid. I hope not, if this is more like a modernized Snake Plisskin flick (without a lot of the cheese) this could be good.
