I figure if you've got to be in the Twilight series, you may as well get to be the villain. Thus far it seems that the heroes, like Bella and Edward, sit around and moon over each other and talk about how they don't like violence, while the villains-- Cam Gigandet in Twilight and Bryce Dallas Howard in the upcoming Eclipse-- get to actually do stuff.

So don't feel bad for Oscar-nominated Catalina Sandino Moreno, who will be playing vampire Maria in Eclipse. According to Risky Biz, which broke the news, her character creates a newborn army of vampires, and recruits a former Confederate soldier (vampire Jasper, who I think is Edward's fake brother) to join her team. Vampire Confederates? I am so there.

Moreno, you may remember, earned an Oscar nomination for Maria Full of Grace and has failed to find really deserving work since (though her bit in the otherwise awful Love in the Time of Cholera movie was pretty good). The Twilight series, as it's earning more money and maybe even clout, has picked up some pretty talented actors, and it wouldn't surprise me to see some real heavy-hitters join for the fourth installment. Moreno and Bryce Dallas Howard, it seems, are just a bit ahead of the curve.
