It looks like Ridley Scott has found his Maid Marion. Cate Blanchett has been rumored to be in the running for the role in his new Nottingham movie for some time, and this week’s Production Weekly lists her in the cast. Speaking at the London Film Critic’s Circle Awards, Mark Strong who will be Sir Guy of Gisborne in the film further confirmed it saying, “I think Cate Blanchett is set to take the Maid Marian part.”
Nottingham is Ridley’s twisted take on the classic Robin Hood myth. In this version, Russell Crowe plays a noble and sympathetic Sherrif of Nottingham. He’s the hero of our story while Robin Hood is a pain in his ass.
Blanchett is a little old to be playing a maid, but the perfect age to be a love interest for the likes of Russell Crowe. At one point Sienna Miller was in contention for the role, but was deemed too young and waify. Good decision. You can’t go wrong with Blanchett.
