Catherine Zeta-Jones' career trajectory has always befuddled me. After years of television work and small films, the actress finally made it big in the late 90s and even won an Oscar for her performance in 2002's Chicago. Despite the huge win, however, her workload never seemed to increase, averaging only one to two movies per year since. Even stranger, she hasn't been in a movie since the 2009 comedy The Rebound with Justin Bartha. As of recently, Zeta-Jones has finally been getting back in the game, taking roles in movies like Lay the Favorite and Playing The Field, and now she's signed up for another one.

Returning to the genre that won her an Academy Award, THR reports that Catherine Zeta-Jones has landed a role in Adam Shankman's Rock of Ages. Playing a role that wasn't originally featured in the Broadway play, she will play the film's villain, described as the love-child of Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant. A hardcore arch-conservative, her character wants to rid the city of Los Angeles of rock n roll. The film already stars Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti, Julianne Hough, and newcomer Diego Gonzalez Boneta, who will star as Drew Bowie.

I've always found Catherine Zeta-Jones to be a terrific mix of talent and beauty, so it's great to see her make her comeback. Let's not question why she left or why she decided to return. Let's just enjoy it.
