Remember when we first got a look at the new James Bond in Casino Royale, and he impressed us all by running from rooftop to rooftop and all over a construction site? That style of fighting and/or dancing, called Parkour, has showed up in a handful of action movies in recent years, and now it's getting its own movie starring-- who else?--Channing Tatum.
New Line is producing the untitled heist drama, Variety says, about two Parkour jumpers who use their skills to rob banks. Richie Smyth, described as "an avid extreme sports practitioner," has directed only music videos before this, and will make his feature directing debut here.
Two years ago I was in Canada and saw the French action movie District B13, which inexplicably no one saw in the U.S. Anyway, the movie featured a lot of Parkour style fighting-- you can see the opening chase scene below--and I've been sold ever since. Channing Tatum's name will be huge on the poster, but it'll be the Parkour that makes the movie worth seeing.
