Chaos Control And More Muppet Musicals: Sitting Down With Kermit And Miss Piggy
Over the last 38 years, few figures have made their mark on Hollywood quite like Kermit and Miss Piggy. Together with the rest of the Muppets they have worked tirelessly to create some of the most admirable careers imaginable, working to create a legacy of both classic television and films. They have handled every kind of chaos you can imagine, from malcontent celebrity guests to regular off-stage explosions, and yet they have always managed to weather the storm. So with Muppets Most Wanted, their eighth theatrical film together, coming out soon and the chance to sit down with the two of them one-on-one I just had to ask, does anything really ever surprise them anymore?
Earlier this month I had the chance to live out a childhood dream (no joke, my inner-child is still screaming with excitement) and sit down with the two fuzzy legends for a special on-camera interview – which you can watch above. In addition to talking about their long legacies in the industry, we also discussed what it’s like handing the reigns to another director on set, how they felt about the script of their latest film keeping them apart, and what kind of notes they had for Oscar winning music supervisor Bret McKenzie working with him for the second time on this new movie.
Based on a script co-written by director James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, Muppets Most Wanted picks up mere moments after the last movie and finds the titular troupe setting out on a long European tour. Rather than enjoying the trip together, however, Kermit and Miss Piggy are torn apart when Kermit is mistaken for Constantine, the world’s greatest criminal and Kermit doppelganger. Locked away in the gulag and his disappearance unnoticed by his friends, Kermit must try to find a way to break out of prison before Constantine can pull off the biggest heist of his career.
Kermit and Miss Piggy get up to all kinds of crazy new hijinks in the new film, but let’s also take a moment to look back at their wonderful past together as well.
Muppets Most Wanted is in theaters this Friday and stay tuned for more of my interviews later this week!
