Since Tropic Thunder screened in Los Angeles earlier this week, there have been rumors flying everywhere that this won’t be your average dumb summer comedy. I mean, they’ve got Tom Cruise in a fat suit—where can it possibly go wrong?
The new posters for the movie up at IESB.net don’t have Cruise, but they do have what everyone is saying is the best thing about the movie—Robert Downey, Jr. in blackface. No, but the funny kind of blackface! It’s worrisome, yes, but I’m trusting the people who are saying it’s funny and not offensive. The posters are all character one-sheets, with individual posters for Downey Jr., Jack Black and Ben Stiller, all looking like they’re under heavy fire in the jungle.
Given my high expectations for this movie, just looking at the posters makes me giggle. I don’t really care so much about Stiller and Black in this movie, but if Robert Downey, Jr. is as funny as everyone says he is—or as funny as he looks on this poster—this will be well worth my $12 this summer. you guys should make a poster with all the 5 guys from the film and the logo in the backround.
