It's been quite a while since we've heard anything about Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts' next movie Charlie Wilson's War, but somewhere behind the scenes it's still steaming ahead. Production Weekly reports that Bollywood actor Om Puri has been signed up for a lead role.
Based on a book, the film is a covert-ops movie about the work of the CIA in Afghanistan to arm the mujahideen. Running the show was Charlie Wilson: a charismatic, fast-talking, Texas congressman who, along with a rogue CIA operative, manipulated the US government and others into helping Afghan rebels fight the Soviets in the 80’s.
Hanks will play Charlie Wilson and Julia is a Texas socialite responsible for influencing Wilson into helping the rebels. Also on board is the once athletic Philip Seymour Hoffman as a CIA agent and Amy Adams as Wilson's assistant. Om Puri is playing the president of Pakistan.
