Charlize Theron Not Doing J. Edgar; Wanted For Alien Prequel?
At the end of last year, when it was revealed that Judi Dench would play a role in Clint Eastwood's biopic of J. Edgar Hoover, the director said that Charlize Theron, who had been in talks for the role of Hoover's personal secretary, Helen Gandy, was not officially attached yet, but that he was confident. Now, according to Vulture, it's being reported that she's not going to be in J. Edgar and, instead, may end up being Ridley Scott's leading lady for the Alien prequel.
According to the site, Theron's representatives blew the actress' interest in the project out of proportion and she never actually had plans to be in the project. But out of that story may come another, as insiders are saying that Twentieth Century Fox wants Theron so badly for the role that they are actually going as far as to rewrite the character so that it better suits her. The story says, however, that Scott is "adamant" about getting The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace to play the main character, who is apparently named Elizabeth Shaw. Despite the popularity of the books, however, Fox is nervous about putting a foreign and lesser-known actress at the head of their high-budgeted production. The same goes for Scott's interest in Michael Fassbender and Michelle Yeoh, who are wanted for the roles of an android crewman and a character named Vickers, respectively. Insiders say that Theron will get a copy of the rewritten script later this week.
It's so incredibly hard to pick apart what's real and what's not in this business. Anything in that paragraph above could be 100% true or 100% false and we have absolutely no idea. We keep hearing the same names and the same problems coming up, but who knows if those are just stories based on rumor. Until you hear something official from Fox about Ridley Scott's Alien prequel, take everything with a grain of salt.
UPDATE: To add on to the Charlize Theron news, Deadline is reporting that Theron has officially signed on to be in Snow White and The Huntsman as has been rumored since October.
