For all the old media types who actually bought into that crazy story which made the rounds on Monday, the one pegging Cher as the next Catwoman, consider this: Christopher Nolan hasn’t even decided if he’s going to make a third Batman movie, let alone start casting it.

We heard last week that he wasn’t signed to direct and tonight Hollywood Reporter has yet another story (in which they quote my long ago reaction to the, at the time odd casting of Heath Ledger) re-iterating that fact. They’ve spoken with both Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros, and both told them they are “interested in doing a third in the series, but all involved say it will be up to Nolan to come to them with a story and a plan.” Does that sound like they’ve started casting?

Producer Chuck Roven further re-iterates the non-existence of a third Batman movie saying, “it's really Chris' call. Chris is the kind of filmmaker who just doesn't think about the next movie before he has completely finished the movie he is working on.” Right now Christopher Nolan is on vacation, not surfing gay fan websites for pictures of Cher to Photoshop into a cat suit. Not only is Cher not involved with the film, the film doesn’t exist. Presumably, one way or another, a third Batman movie will be made. Right now though, there’s no way to know if Christopher Nolan will direct it, and certainly no way to know who will actually be in it.
