The motion capture technology that Robert Zemeckis is so high on and is using for his new Beowulf movie still freaks me out. If you saw The Polar Express, you know what I’m talking about. He used it for the first time there, and the results were, to me anyway, disturbing. The film’s animated kids all looked like they were possessed by the devil. Hopefully, they’ll have worked some of the creepiness factor out by the time Beowulf is finished, or if not then perhaps by the time Zemeckis puts out his third motion capture animated movie, which is supposed to be yet another remake of A Christmas Carol.
Now normally, there are few things on this Earth I’d be less excited about than another version if A Christmas Carol. It’s really been done to death and frankly, The Muppets have already had the definitive word on the subject. Once Kermit does something, it doesn’t need to be done again, especially not by Zemeckis and his wacky CGI. But Jim Hill has a little tidbit which ought to get any certified movie nut’s motor up and running. The movie may reunite Zemeckis with Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox.
Those three haven’t worked together since Back to the Future 3, and even though Lloyd and Fox would only be basically providing voices, the thought of the BTTF triumvirate working together again in any capacity gets my power laces tingling. Jim Hill claims Lloyd will be playing Marley’s Ghost, while Fox provides the voice of Tiny Tim, who hopefully, will ride some sort of floating skateboard. Ok, there probably won’t be a hoverboard, but we can hope.
Also rumored to be in the cast are Jim Carrey as Mr. Scrooge, Bob Hoskins as Mr. Fezzwig, and Tom Hanks as Bob Cratchit, but who cares. Doc Brown and Marty McFly together again? Count me in.
