Chris Rock Directs His Next![]()
Chris Rock has been locked to star in the comedy I Think I Love My Wife for several weeks, but he isn’t content with just picking up another acting paycheck. Now The Hollywood Reporter says he’s signed a deal to direct the film as well.
This isn’t Chris’s first silver screen directing gig. His first attempt was the failed 2003 comedy Head of State. I Think I Love My Wife has a better premise: a married man who dreams of other women finds himself tested when he’s visited by an old flame. But good premise or not, both films share the same fatal flaw: Chris Rock in a starring role. Chris Rock is one of the funniest humans on the planet, but the guy can’t act a lick. Sometimes he gets away with it when given a smaller supporting role. He’s alright in Dogma for instance. But whenever he’s put front and center he’s exposed. He can’t act. He’s a terrible actor. As long as he’s the star, he’ll never make a movie that’s any good. If Chris Rock wants to make it as a director, he should fire himself and find a better comedic actor. If he wants to perform, the guy should stick to stand-up, where he’s absolutely genius. So far, though he’s taken over as director, it looks like he’ll still determined to star in I Think I Love My Wife. He gets the directing job by replacing Charles Stone (Mr. 3000), who recently dropped the project. |
