Julie Delpy clearly has a thing for small-scale movies about relationships that then get sequels a couple years down the road. She and Ethan Hawke fell in love in Before Sunrise only to get back together 9 years later for Before Sunset and now Delpy is planning a sequel to her 2007 directorial effort 2 Days in Paris. This time the action will be moved to New York, previous co-star Adam Goldberg won't be in the picture… but Chris Rock might take his place?

As unlikely as it sounds, that's what The Wrap is reporting today. They're unclear on what Rock's role will be in 2 Days in New York, but Delpy's character will have a child and a new lover, so it's entirely possible-- if not likely-- that that's Rock's role. They're planning to start shooting in October, which is an excellent time to be in New York no matter what you're doing, and Delpy is eyeing a Cannes 2011 debut for the film.

Rock proved an affinity for the French when he remade Chloe in the Afternoon as the 2007 film I Think I Love My Wife, but who knows if that has anything to do with this move. As much as I realize he probably won't play Delpy's new boyfriend-- it sounds like way too much of a commitment in too small a movie for a star as big as Rock-- I'll now be kind of disappointed if that isn't the case. Julie Delpy and Chris Rock would be one of cinema's more unexpected couples, but hey, who's to say they're not perfect for each other?
