Chris Rock Monogamous?![]()
Remakes are generally regarded in Cinema Blend with the same disdain as internet petitions. In short, we don't approve. However, certain circumstances do allow for some acceptable exceptions.
For example if you are remaking a 34 year old French movie, there's gotta be some scope for it to work. It isn't like you're taking a 2 year old French cult hit and replacing the main character with some flavor of the moment rapper-girl in a Knight Rider Taxicab and hoping for the best. So Fox Searchlight is planning to remake Eric Rohmer's 1972 movie L'amour l'apres-midi, more commonly known over here as Chloe in the Afternoon. Under the shiny new title of I Think I Love My Wife, Chris Rock has just signed up to star in the lead role and Charles Stone (Drumline) is in negotiations to direct. I Think... will tell the tale of a happily-married office worker who daydreams about illicit affairs with other women with no intention of pursuing these dreams. That is until the mistress of an old friends turns up and starts trying to seduce him for real. Hopefully this movie's title and Rock's presence gives hope that it will play out as some mildly slapstick comedy of errors and will avoid the horrible moral bankrupsy of similar recent relationship movies like Imagine Me and You. On the other hand, when was the last time a Chris Rock movie was anywhere near as funny as Chris Rock stand-up? |
