Chris Rock, throughout much of his career, has been one of the most original and hilarious comedians we've got. But just a year after I Think I Love My Wife, a remake of the French movie Chloe in the Afternoon, Rock is taking another European film and giving it the American treatment. Death at a Funeral, the 2007 farce directed by Frank Oz, will be transplanted across the pond as a starring vehicle for Rock.

Variety reports that Rock will co-write the screenplay with Aeysha Carr, a writer for the TV show based on Rock's life, Everybody Hates Chris. The article doesn't specify anything about the changes other than that Rock's version will be set in urban America, rather than the London suburbs.

The original film is a straight-up farce, involving torrid affairs, overturned caskets, drug abuse and lots of nudity. Rock hasn't done much work in that vein before, so it'll be interesting to see how he brings his style of humor to a movie that, in its original version, was very, very British. Mainly I'd love it if he brought back Peter Dinklage, who played the only American character in the film and had a pivotal, hilarious role. Otherwise, though, Chris, we're counting on you.
