The Batcave’s back, baby! Bruce Wayne’s underground lair was in desperate need of reconstructive surgery following the devastating conclusion of Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. So while the Batcave sat out The Dark Knight, we’re being told the Caped Crusader returns to his hideout in The Dark Knight Rises, and we know where Nolan’s shooting his interiors and exteriors.

Insiders are telling Wales Online that Nolan spent two days filming on National Trust land at the Henrhyd Waterfall for use as the exterior of Batman’s famous cave. A local source claims that the waterfall will be used in the sequel’s opening sequence, though they go on to say that Christian Bale’s hero will “discover” the cave in this Rises opening, which doesn’t make sense, so take that information with a grain of salt.

That’s not all. According to the website DarkKnightRisesRumors.com, Nolan will be using the Turda Salt Mines in Romania for interior shots of the updated Batcave. The mines would be used in addition to an interior set that has been constructed at Warner Bros. Nothing has been confirmed, but the site points out that the salt mine’s interior “already look like a Batcave and the futuristic lighting and elevator makes it seem as though Batman would find such a place ideal as a hideout.”

It’s hard to argue once you see photos of the insides of the salt mines. They’d be perfect for a Batcave. Take a look:

Rises has become quite the international affair, with reported production shoots in India, Romania, the UK and … well, Pittsburgh. As if you need to be told, the sequel stars Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Gotham beat cop John Blake. It will be in theaters everywhere on July 20, 2012.
