For those wondering why Christopher Nolan still hasn’t announced anything about Batman 3, here’s your answer. It’s not his next movie. Variety reports that Warner Bros. has bought a script called “Inception”, written by Chris Nolan. That, not a sequel to The Dark Knight will be his next directing gig.

Warners is still desperate to get Nolan back to do a third Batman movie, but Christopher Nolan, despite recent rumors to the contrary, still hasn’t committed to anything. Instead he’s doing Inception, a science fiction movie which WB will use at its big summer tentpole in 2010. No we don’t know what it’s about. No it doesn’t have Batman in it.

I think, bottom line, if Warner Brothers is simply patient Nolan will get around to doing Batman 3, eventually. There’s a pattern here. After Batman Begins Chris did The Prestige before getting around to The Dark Knight. That’s why it took three years between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. At the rate things are going it may be four before we get a third Batman movie, but it’ll be worth the wait.
