Cirque Du Soleil Gets The 3D Treatment And A Big Screen Release With Worlds Away![]()
For those of us who have never seen Cirque Du Soleil live, Judd Apatow gave us a sample of a production of it in Knocked Up, and now those with an interest in seeing more of it on the big screen in a more focused style (as opposed to the snippet shown to us in front of two guys on mushrooms), Paramount is set to deliver with a 3D Event Film called Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away.
The announcement was made today that Paramount has secured the distribution rights for the film, and aims to release it worldwide this year. Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away has an original story but “features artistic and acrobatic performances from some of the most elaborate Cirque du Soleil productions.” It was written and directed by Andrew Adamson (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe), and executive produced by James Cameron. "The coupling of filmmaker James Cameron’s groundbreaking 3D visual accomplishments and Andrew Adamson’s beautiful direction, combined with a timeless original story written especially for this movie, will make for a truly amazing moviegoeing experience for audiences of all ages " said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount Pictures. 3D in today’s film may be a bit overused, or perhaps even misused in some cases, however given what we’ve seen from the technology in the way of visual enhancement when executed properly, Cirque du Soleil seems like exactly the kind of production that can benefit from the 3D treatment. The use of color, music and acrobatics could make for a truly stunning visual experience for a 3D film. |
