Clint Eastwood To Direct Remake Of A Star Is Born With Beyonce
In late 2009 and early 2010, there was a persistent rumor that Warner Bros. was planning a remake of A Star Is Born with Beyonce in the lead. A story told many times over - or three times to be exact - the project never really got beyond the "I have a great idea" stage, and seemingly ended when Beyonce bailed on it last May. Well, today I'm hear to report that not only is the movie back on with Beyonce, but they've wrangled an interesting choice for the director.
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has officially put none other than Clint Eastwood at the helm of A Star Is Born. The script has been written by Will Fetters, Billy Gerber and Jon Peters (who served as producer on the 1976 version with Barbara Streisand), and there is currently nobody attached as the male lead, meaning that Russell Crowe apparently left the project at some point. The production aims to start lensing in the fall. In the story, an aging rock star takes a young and talented singer under his wing and sacrifices his own career to make her famous.
Yes, I too did a double-take when first reading this news. I could see Rob Marshall or Adam Shankman taking the helm of a film like this, but The Man With No Name? It's certainly an interesting choice, but I'll take it one step further: Eastwood should play the male lead. I think he and Beyonce would have great chemistry.
