When people complain about the lack of good comedy roles for women, they either point to Baby Mama or the upcoming House Bunny as possible exceptions to the rule. Anna Faris has been toiling in comedies for years now without really having a breakout role, and her fans are hoping that House Bunny might be the Legally Blonde-type role she needs to become a Witherspoon-sized star.
A new clip from the movie, available at Apple.com, continues to show off the rockin’ bod and luminous hair that Faris will sport in her role as an ex-Playboy bunny who moves into an unpopular sorority house. But the clip doesn’t give much of an idea of how funny the movie will be, or even if it will be funny at all. It’s a short clip, sure, but it contains just a few jokes and mostly features college guys ogling Faris’ character as she hugs a straight-laced sorority girl (Emma Stone, of Superbad) on the front lawn. Oh, and Faris is doing yoga in a bikini in the front lawn. Huh?
Both Stone and Faris are really, really funny, as we know, so I’m hoping this clip is a bit of a fluke, or just hard to understand because it’s taken out of context. Because if this whole movie consists of Faris wearing skimpy clothing and frat guys ogling her, it’s not going to be any kind of step forward for women in comedy. It’ll just be business as usual.
