I’m getting a little worried about Frank Darabont’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist. The idea of Darabont directing thrills me and the first trailer looked pretty solid, but some new clips have been released online that make me wonder if the third time isn’t the charm for a Darabont/King combination.
The clips have come online courtesy of Fear.net and each is just a quick look at a scene from the movie, averaging less than a minute. They show off some of the claustrophobic nature of the story and that Darabont still has it when it comes to dramatic sequences. What doesn’t look pretty are the visual effects, particularly the clip “Norm” which features Norm the stockboy being grabbed by some of the mist’s mysterious tentacles. This was a worry I had from the initial trailer, but this clip increases that concern. I’m hoping that’s because the trailers are a bit choppy at times in their streaming media format.
What do you think? Does Darabont’s film look like a hat trick for the director and Stephen King, or is there cause for concern here? Check out the clips at Fear.com and decide for yourself.
