Clooney And Foster Dump Drama For The Funny

Clooney And Foster Dump Drama For The Funny Thank goodness George Clooney's next movie isn't going to be another heavy drama. I don't care how many Academy Awards nominations Michael Clayton received, it was still a boring, heavy handed piece of Oscar bait. Clooney is at his best when he's grinding out the comedy. Solaris? Syriana? Snorefests! Ocean's Eleven! O Brother Where Art Thou?! Now we're talking.

George teams up with a top notch cast including Renée Zellweger and "The Office" star John Krasinski for Leatherheads, set in a time when football players didn't mess around with girly stuff like pads and face guards. They also didn't get paid tons of money or whine when they didn't get sponsorship deals. Leatherheads should make for an entertaining twist on the sports comedy.

If you'd rather give another questionable horror movie a chance, you might try The Ruins. Granted, every other horror/thriller flick this year has pretty much sucked. Shutter, One Missed Call, The Signal, The Eye... need I go on? But odds are that eventually one of them has to be half-way decent, right? Of course, it is directed by a guy whose only other real credit is a short film featured in a video anthology titled Boys Life 6. I guess it's no surprise they haven't really been screening it for critics. Buy tickets at your own risk.

Your third option features Jodie Foster in an uncharacteristic adventure/comedy role. Nim's Island is the first funny for Foster since she donned a southern belle accent for Maverick about fourteen years ago. This time she's playing an author of an action/adventure book series who comes to the rescue of a young girl on an uninhabited island. After their correspondence reveals that the girl's scientist father has gone missing, Foster's character comes to a reluctant rescue. If Foster in a comedy and that adventurous plot line aren't enough to pique your interest, here's the kicker: there are funny animals in the movie too. It's a family treat no matter how old you are. How can it go wrong?

Clooney + Zellweger + that guy from The Office = a shoe-in for the number one spot at the box office. Nim's good for a close second and, with any luck, bizarre horror movie will end up somewhere underneath Horton Hears A Who.
