In a world full of smurfy 3D blockbusters and giant, stomping robots Cloverfield feels almost, well, dated. But it probably won’t take much to reawaken fan interest and it looks like the sequel, despite a long time without much movement, is still go.

Producer JJ Abrams recently talked to MTV on the subject and offered this update on the status of Cloverfield 2: “We're working on something right now with that and again, you know, it's early stages.” Not exactly earth-shattering news JJ, but it’s good to know that at least it’s still happening. Maybe for the sequel we can, you know, see the monster.

Abrams also joked about the possibility of a Gorn-centric sequel to Star Trek. Watch the full MTV interview over there
