Over the last few months we've praised producer Megan Ellison many, many times. After all, she is the woman giving money to filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson, Spize Jonze, Charlie Kaufman, Kathryn Bigelow, John Hillcoat, and Andrew Dominik to keep doing what they do best. Now her brother, David, is ready to follow her example.

According to Variety, David Ellison's Skydance Pictures and New Regency have joined Paramount in a co-financing deal to back Doug Liman's Luna and put the project on the fast track. Originally set up at Dreamworks, the film is about a group of astronauts who travel the world stealing equipment so that they can go to the moon and steal an energy source. Jake Gyllenhaal was originally attached to star, but the new report says that Bradley Cooper, Chris Evans and Andrew Garfield are now being looked at. Previous reports have said that Emile Hirsch, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox, Rachel McAdams, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde are up for parts as well. While the story doesn't make not of the film's tone, with the right chemistry between its cast members this movie has the potential to be a really fun heist film. Yes, the premise is just slightly ridiculous - how exactly do you go about building a 4.4 million pound spaceship without attracting attention? - but with the right characters it could be Liman's version of Ocean's 11.
