It’s been a while since we heard any news on the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street, but the last day at Comic-Con brought two separate pieces of information about the film, neither which are fantastic pieces of news for the franchise.

First up, the reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street was brought up on the panel of another reboot - Friday the 13th, where Platinum Dunes producers discussed the remake of Jason. While the Jason people agreed they would love to get their hands on Freddy Krueger and the remake of Nightmare, according to Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, the deal still hasn’t been completed for Platinum Dunes to even move forward with a new Nightmare quite yet. It’s being worked on, but it’s not done… yet.

Meanwhile, the next panel featured Freddy creator Wes Craven, talking about his upcoming picture 25/8. Once again the subject of the Nightmare remake was brought up, and Wes said he hasn’t been contacted at all about the project, so if it’s going forward it’s without any creative input from him. He didn’t appear jaded over the idea, but basically said it’s not his project to deal with, therefore it’s not his problem that it’s being remade.

So, that new Nightmare on Elm Street may still be a while away, and isn’t even a certainty. At this point, anything that does move forward is without the blessing or involvement of Craven, which makes me a bit nervous. The Craven Nightmare flicks were the best ones of the saga and the franchise always suffered without him.
