Comic Con: Teaser Site For Pixar's Up image
Given that they're kind of the kings of the geeks, it makes sense for Pixar to start drumming up excitement for their next movie at Comic Con, even if it has nothing to do with comics per se. (I'll bet The Incredibles earned them a lifetime of goodwill). So today they've launched the first teaser site for next summer's Up, which you can visit right now. The site is pretty much the definition of a teaser, given that it offers no photos, no actual clips, and nothing you can download. But given how little we know about the movie, what it does give us is pretty great. A big clump of balloons shows up at the bottom of the page, and gradually moves up to reveal that they're attached to a house, where an old man sits on the porch and greets you with a genial "Afternoon!"

What little we know about Up besides this is that it's kind of an adaptation of Don Quixote, in which an elderly park ranger sets off on a crazy adventure. I love how this teaser clarifies just what kind of adventure-- ridiculous, improbably, and a little bit magical. The reference to Dorothy's flying house in The Wizard of Oz is unmistakable, and this teaser plus the first image of the film we saw in January seems to indicate this house, too, will fly a long, long way from home.

Pretty much all you can do at this point with the site is sign up for updates, but hey, why not? Pixar is on such an unbeatable winning streak that it seems silly not to get excited about their next movie. Especially with one with as great a teaser concept as this one.
