My interest in Terminator 4 died a vicious death this afternoon, when Halycon ripped it to bits by announcing they’re making the movie PG-13. Not because I love gore, but because the Terminator movies are some of the most successful R-rated movies ever made, and dammit that’s the way it ought to stay. It was nice to have at least one film series you could count on seeing, without having to wade past hordes of texting kids.
Well we’ve already lost Die Hard and now we’re losing Terminator. It’s being tossed into the center of the mall where it’ll invariably start a teenage MySpace frenzy.
But this isn’t supposed to be another story about how much it sucks that Terminator 4 is being watered down to a PG-13 to sell videogames. I did that story yesterday. It’s supposed to be about the casting of Common, whom Variety says joining the project to play a member of John Connor’s freedom-fighting inner circle. Whatever. It’s PG-13 and directed by McG. I don’t care of Jesus H. Christ dressed in drag is playing Sarah Connor. My internal excite-o-meter is staying at zero, for now.
