There was no way there could be such a monumental meltdown in the world of late night TV without a movie coming out of it. At least the man behind the effort is none other than the victim of the whole situation, Conan O’Brien. As reported by Deadline, the ex-Tonight Show host is in talks to create a documentary feature out of his 30-city live comedy/music revue, “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour.”

Rumor has it Media Right Capital is interested in financing the project, even though it’s only in the wee early stages of development. Rodman Flender, the man behind Idle Hands and a slew of TV projects, could be the guy behind the lens.

Now the question is, how can O’Brien get away with this? There has to be some fine print in the $33 million arrangement he established with NBC when they parted ways prohibiting him from making a buck, right? Yes, but the contract only applies to the small screen. O’Brien isn’t allowed on the air until the fall, but that has zero effect on a big screen venture.

And, of course, the follow up question would be, so what about this rumored deal to return to late night on Fox? According to Deadline, “there might be other surprise moves for the chat host, so don't dress for the Fox launch just yet.” Sounds like someone knows something and they’re not telling.
