Austinís SXSW film festival is, for me anyway, the most fun you can have at a film festival. And thatís just based on the food. The movies are usually pretty amazing too, unlike Sundance where the festival is overwhelmed with overly serious dramas, SX pulls in a more varied crowd of filmmakers delivering comedies, horror movies, and even the occasional sci-fi movie along with plenty of the tear-soaked dramas Park City covets. What Iím getting at here is that SXSW is the perfect place for Conan OíBrien to debut his new movie, a documentary called Conan OíBrien Canít Stop the World.

The doc follows Conan around on the 32-city tour he used to keep himself busy while his contractual obligations to NBC wouldnít allow him to be on television. Also getting its worldwide premiere at SXSW is Mel Gibsonís The Beaver, which will play on Wednesday, March 16th.

Itís all part of whatís turning into a pretty loaded year for the Austin film festival. Already set to play during the week are big movies like Source Code and Paul.

SXSW Film runs March 11 Ė 19 in Austin, Texas and Iíll be there, probably in a seat at the back of the Paramount or at a nearby barbecue joint up to my armpits in brisket, the entire time. Watch for my complete coverage here on Cinema Blend.
