Between the cast and the subject matter, Steve Soderbergh’s Contagion already looks like a big movie. Thanks to IMAX, the film will be getting even bigger. Movie-goers near one of the participating IMAX theaters will have the opportunity to see the film on the even bigger big screen.

Contagion is described as an action-thriller about a rapidly-spreading deadly disease and the doctors that are scrambling to contain and cure it. The cast includes Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne, Gwyneth Paltrow, and John Hawkes.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the IMAX release of the film will happen at the same time as the North American wide-release (September 9th) and should be available on 257 IMAX screens domestically and at least 30 IMAX theaters internationally.

Some movie experiences are even better when Imax is involved. Others, less so. Whether or not IMAX manages to enhance Contagion as a film remains to be seen.
