Coppola Making The Argentinean Godfather? image
It’s been nearly ten years since anyone has seen a Francis Ford Coppola directed a movie. Unless of course you count Supernova, which he doesn’t. This year he returns to cinemas with the release of a period thriller called Youth Without Youth. Apparently it’s reawakened his interest in making movies, because Variety reports that he’s already lining up another project.

Coppola is set to produce and direct the movie Tetro, from a screenplay he wrote. Set in Argentina (where he’ll shoot it), Tetro tells the generational story of an Italian immigrant family “marred by fierce rivalries”. Anyone else think this sounds an awful lot like an Argentinian version of The Godfather?

Tetro is being financed by Coppola as well. Basically, he’s the boss in every sense of the word. Youth Without Youth is also completely funded by Coppola, using funds from his winery business. That’s right, his winery business. Apparently somewhere along the line Coppola turned into Russell Crowe’s dead uncle in A Good Year. Of course that reference might be better if anyone besides me had actually seen A Good Year.
