Could David O. Russell Direct Jim Carrey In Under Cover?![]()
Six years after I Heart Huckabees and still recovering from the debacle that was Nailed, David O. Russell is about to back in the spotlight with The Fighter a boxing drama that many are predicting to be in the thick of the awards race (check out the trailer here if you're curious). But even as that film makes its way toward release Russell has already been eying other projects, considering then eventually dropping an adaptation of the Uncharted video game and making plans to team up with Vince Vaughn for Old St. Louis.
Now add yet another project to Russell's massive "maybe" pile. According to The LA Times reports that Russell is eyeing the Jim Carrey comedy Under Cover, about a man who joins a cover band. Here's the description given to the LA Times about the film: "A heartwarming but broadly comic story of a man winning back his family and re-discovering his voice by performing some of the greatest hits of classic rock in the unlikely company of a cover band." It sounds possibly intolerable coming from any director other than Russell, who has an excellent sense of how to inject darkness and outright mania into standard comedic premises. It's been ages since Jim Carrey has made a comedy actually worth looking forward to, and Russell might actually have the ability to bring something new out of a comedian we've seen so much of by now. Don't get too excited about this possible bizarre dream pairing, since Russell is changing his mind all over the place these days… but keep those fingers crossed just in case. |
