Even though Megan Fox has, in the past, been completely dismissive of any geek friendly project which doesn’t involve Michael Bay, she’s being rumored as part of yet another nerd project. This time it’s the remake of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

As announced last month, there’s a total reboot of the Buffy franchise happening, without any of the previous cast or any connection at all to any previous incarnation of the character. That means they’ll definitely need a new Buffy and a site called Cine Fools claims “the name being thrown around for the title role is Megan Fox.”

Alright that’s pretty vague. Who is throwing her name around? How do they know her name is being thrown around? What the hell does “thrown around” even mean? Well it probably means this is just an unsubstantiated rumor.

IGN was able to get a comment from an official source, Buffy producer Roy Lee. Roy confirms that this is just a rumor, but doesn’t actually outright deny it either. He says, “As with any film project with a female lead under the age of 30, Megan is the actress that most studios want so it is no surprise her name is mentioned. While I think she would be great for our project, we are still in the early stages of developing the script.”

So bottom line here: Megan Fox probably really is one of the names the Buffy remake producers are considering. Does that mean much? Not really. She’s a hot property right now and as Lee points out, everyone in Hollywood wants her. But it’s unlikely that they’ve offered the part to her or even talked to her about it. Should they ever do so, there’s really no way to know whether she’d even be interested in it. Countdown till some pushy red carpet reporter corners Megan Fox and forces her to comment on whether she’d be interested starts… now.
