Spider-Man 3 casting news has been so prevalent lately it’s almost become a beating. It’s only made more so since most of the big names probably aren’t much more than cameos or setups for the next film anyway. At least we think so. It’s really hard to tell since Raimi refuses to release any definitive info about his film beyond who is appearing in it.

The latest addition to Spidey 3 is James Cromwell, whom you may remember as a prominent part of the last good Star Trek film and as that guy in Babe. Cromwell’s a great actor, and deserves to have a bigger role than he’s getting in Spidey 3, but no matter what part he plays having him on board any movie can only make it better. The Hollywood Reporter says Cromwell will play Gwen Stacy’s (Bryce Dallas Howard) father, Captain Stacy in Spider-Man 3.

Where exactly he or anyone else announced to be in this film fits in is anyone’s guess. No one really knows what the heck Spidey 3 is about or even who he’s fighting for sure. Rumors about the project continue to abound. For instance the latest says that both Topher Grace and Peter Parker will end up in a Venom suit, while another equally recent rumor says no Venom at all, rather Topher is playing Electro. Take your pick. Cromwell though is in it. That’s not a rumor. How significant his character is, is anyone’s guess.
