Following in the footsteps of Steve Carell, Rob Corddry will be the next “Daily Show’ correspondent launched into movie stardom by being associated with Jon Stewart. Oddly enough, Stewart’s own movie career is still without a pulse.
Variety says Paramount Pictures has acquired a comedy pitch called The Donor, with the intention of developing it as a star vehicle for Corddry. Jon Stewart is co-producing the movie with Ben Karlin through his production company Busboy. Stewart, Karlin, and Corddry came up with the concept, and Corddry will help screenwriters Jason Mantzoukas and Brian Huskey write it.
The odd thing here is that Corddry isn’t even a major part of “The Daily Show”. He’s a bit player, who shows up once in awhile for their most unfunny sketches and then disappears. When Carell made it big he did it slowly, starting out in UPS commercials, then stealing scenes in smaller movie roles before getting his big break. Corddry has had a couple of movie cameos, but he’s not exactly stealing scenes. Maybe he’ll make a splash in Blades of Glory. He co-stars opposite Will Ferrell in the upcoming speed skating comedy.
