When I read in Variety that Dakota Fanning was negotiating for a part in The Runaways I assumed she was following in her Hounddog footsteps, playing some teen who was running away from home and getting into hard times. It shows I need to read entire articles, not just headlines, because while The Runaways sounds like it’ll give Fanning some challenges, it’s not exactly what I thought.

The Runaways is the upcoming biopic about the ‘70s girl band of the same name. Twilight star Kristen Stewart is already signed on to play the band’s guitarist, Joan Jett. Now Fanning is in talks to play the band’s lead vocalist, Cheri Currie, whose biography, Neon Angel, is providing a lot of the source material for the picture.

For those who think Fanning might be too young to play the rocker, she’s actually the same age Currie was during her rise to fame, and subsequent downfall to drugs and the hard rock star life.
