When it comes to the long awaited Dallas movie, the drama isn’t in the script, it’s all around the production. Several months back a feature version of the 80s television soap seemed a sure thing. With a big name cast, a director, and a script all ready to go, the movie seemed set. Then things fell apart, most of the cast jumped ship, and the movie went straight to development hell. For awhile there were rumors that it might be retooled as some sort of horrible parody comedy, but now the project may have found new life.
John Travolta has been set to play J.R. Ewing in the film, almost since the idea’s first inception, and it’s Travolta that’s keeping it afloat. He’s paddling for all he’s worth, and recently told WENN: “"I'm meeting with a director I won't name and I think they (producers) want to start in the New Year."
What John Travolta wants and what John Travolta gets may, of course, end up being two completely different things. But if you’re a fan of the show, this at least sounds hopeful. As long as it’s not that awful parody idea that he’s trying to push into production, this could be a good sign for the nearly defunct Dallas movie.
