Damon Wants Captain Kirk's Chair![]()
Though he hasn’t been offered the part, those rumors about Matt Damon playing Captain Kirk in J.J. Abram’s new Star Trek prequel just won’t go away. Probably because let’s face it, it’s a really good idea. Look, it’s a lousy thing to have anyone except Shatner play the character, but if you’re going to do it anyway, then getting a great actor like Damon is definitely the way to go with it.
Apparently, Matt Damon agrees. He told Sci-Fie Wire that he’d be up for it. He says, “If the script was good, I'd do it.” So wait a minute, J.J. Abrams wants him, William Shatner is rumored to be in favor of him, Paramount would likely be pleased to have a big name actor anchoring, and now Damon says he’d take the part? Then what the hell is everyone waiting for? Oh yeah, a script. They don’t have a finished script yet. That’s the reason J.J. Abrams still hasn’t decided whether or not he’s directing it instead of just producing it, and it’s probably also the reason no one has bothered calling Matt Damon about sitting in The Chair. Still, the fact that Damon is open to it ought to be great news for anyone without a stick up their ass about Trek. Did anyone really think he’d want the part? I know I didn’t. If he wants it, then Paramount should bend over backwards to give it to him. Crank those Ben Affleck as Spock jokes back up, you never know what else might happen. |
