Dark Knight Rises Adds Stargate's Christopher Judge
The television version of Stargate, called Stargate SG-1 when it was on Sci-Fi, has its share of fans, but I doubt even the most ardent among them ever thought any of the cast would end up in one of the most anticipated movies of all time, let alone The Dark Knight Rises. Somehow, that has actually happened.
Christopher Judge, who played the stoic alien Jaffa warrior Tealíc on the show, has been cast in Christopher Nolanís new Batman film. The news of his involvement comes from a tweet in which Judge confirms that heís been hired. Exactly what role heíll play remains to be seen, but one thing I can say for certain about Chris Judge is that heís big. Thatís sure to be useful, somewhere, in just about any comic book movie. He has the perfect build to play a random, angry, thug.
The Stargate SG-1 fans who are about to pillory me in the comments section on this article will tell you differently, but I submit thereís a reason that despite the popularity of their series neither Judge nor any of the other SG-1 castmembers have gone on to do anything in movies, much less to have significant careers outside the Stargate universe at all. Having watched a lot of Stargate recently I can confirm that none of the characters in that show really has a personality. Part of it was Stargateís writing (which was unimaginative) and part of it was the cast (who canít really act, not even MacGyver).
If Nolan is smart heís cast Judge as thug #2 and weíll all be able to move on. But maybe heíll surprise us. Maybe it was all the writing and this guy can act. Weíll find out when The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20, 2012. In the meantime, Iíll probably keep watching Stargate SG-1. I have no good excuse for this behavior. Iím a starving science fiction nerd.
