OK, so David Prowse didn't create the iconic Darth Vader voice, but he did spend a lot of time walking around in that giant suit, and that deserves some credit, right? And regardless of how much you want to defend James Earl Jones, the guy who was the physical body of Darth Vader obviously deserves some profits from Return of the Jedi, a movie that has grossed over $500 million since its reelase in 1983.
But not so fast, Prowse! According to Times Online, Lucasfilm has been telling the actor for the last 24 years that Jedi has yet to turn a profit. "I get these occasional letters from Lucasfilm saying that we regret to inform you that as Return of the Jedi has never gone into profit, we’ve got nothing to send you."
Film Drunk lays out just how this is possible, mostly thanks to a rotten deal Hollywod signs some actors to that involves net profits, rather than gross. So just in case you'd started feeling positively toward George Lucas again, given his tacit approval of Fanboys on all that, just hold on-- he still may be the biggest villain in town. After all, he's defeating Darth Vader.
