As much news as I may cover about David O. Russell's adaptation of the video game Uncharted, I have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on with it. Since learning last October that he would be taking on the project, it's been nothing but a series of stops and starts both involving casting and story while Mark Wahlberg has done his best to say "everything's fine." And even if everything's fine, then why did he start working on another project this month? Wherever the film may be in development, Russell is still talking about it, and now has dropped a small casting hint.

Empire recently spoke with the director, who received his first Oscar nomination last Tuesday, and when the conversation turned to Uncharted, they spoke about a character not yet mentioned in the rumors: the love interest, Elena. After saying that he's "cultivated her quite a bit" and "added a lot of dimension," the two talked a bit about casting. After a suggestion from the interviewer that Amy Adams, who was also given an Oscar nod for her work on The Fighter, Russell said,
"Oh I would love that too, I love Amy. I also love Scarlett Johansson; there’s a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we’ll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role"

Considering that Johansson will be in production on The Avengers for most of the year, one must wonder whether she would even be available for the project. Despite always having her named mentioned in casting stories like this, it's strange that Johansson hasn't been nearly as ubiquitous as she's been in past years. Certainly a talented actress, maybe if it takes long enough for Uncharted to get going she'll be able to do it.
