David O. Russell Runs Away From Pride And Prejudice And Zombies
Even though I loathe I Heart Huckabees, I still get a little excited when I see David O. Russell sign on to direct stuff. Sadly, the Three Kings director will walk away from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in lieu of making a real movie, called Old St. Louis, according to Vulture.
It doesn’t sound like there’s any bad blood between the production and the director, just mounting scheduling conflicts that have caused him to move on. PPZ probably would have been a fun movie to watch, especially with Russell helming and Natalie Portman in the lead (also producing), but would it have been anything more than a capitalization on a fad that is already wearing out its welcome? Probably not. Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is next up on the list of Quirk Classics being adapted for the screen, so we’ll see what comes of these jazzed up pieces of literature.
Vulture is saying that after his departure the project is dead, but something tells me it’ll walk around for a while until someone else decides to take a shot at it.
